A Portable Camp Stove Will Improve Your Camping Experience

One aspect of camping that may seem intimidating is the manner in which you have to forage for and prepare food. Sure you can go fishing or hunting and place your bounty on a homemade skewer that is suspended over a campfire, but if this does not appeal to you or seems to be too complicated, using a folding camp stove is an attractive alternative.

Choose A Stove Style

Canister, liquid fuel, and flat top stoves are three styles that can be folded when not in use, making each one compact enough to store inside of a duffel bag. Determine what you will be using the stove for. If you are only going to be using the stove to boil water or heat up small amounts of food, a canister style will be sufficient.

If you are going to be using your stove to cook a variety of edibles or may even be using your stove as a heating source during a camping expedition that is held in the winter, a larger stove that requires liquid fuel or wood will be a better option. With a larger stove, you will be provided with a surface area that will support multiple pieces of cookware. Gasoline, kerosene, and propane are three fuel types that may work with a stove that requires liquid fuel.

Each stove style may require you to assemble pieces prior to use, and because some stoves use distinct fuel types, you should make sure that you are comfortable with the one that is necessary before purchasing a stove. For instance, if you are going to be using your stove for both cooking and heating, you may be more inclined to purchase a model that doesn't require the use of a flammable liquid that emits strong odors, especially if you will be using the cookware in a confined space.

There are stove models that come with fuel tablets if you are looking for a cooking and heating source that can be used without any preparations, other than to light the tablets.

Buy A Cookware Set And Emergency Rations

To make the most of your stove, you may want to buy a cookware set and emergency rations. A cookware set that is designed for camping may include a pot with a collapsible handle, a mixing spoon, measuring cups, serving dishes, utensils, and a waterproof storage bag. Emergency ration kits contain dehydrated ingredients that can be used to prepare filling meals.

Kits have a long shelf life and do not require refrigeration. To prepare a meal, use your folding stove to boil a pot of water. Pour the heated water directly into one of the bags that the dehydrated ingredients are stored in. Allow the water to soften the food for several minutes. Stir the contents of the bag before consuming the meal.
